SBD Joins in Microsoft’s 40 years celebrations
Sandyford Business District was pleased to join Microsoft at their Leopardstown campus on Thursday to celebrate the company’s 40 years in Ireland. A newly published socio-economic report underscores Microsoft’s major national impact, noting €40 billion in economic value generated over the past decade and more than 20,000 jobs supported across the country.
Since its early days with fewer than 100 employees in 1985, Microsoft has grown to a 6,400-strong workforce in Dublin and continues to invest significantly in R&D, AI, and STEM education — including a further €4 million committed to AI skilling initiatives over the next three years and ongoing support for the Dream Space hub for students.
Sandyford Business District was also delighted to acknowledge Microsoft’s long-standing contribution to the area, with James O’Connor, Microsoft Ireland Site Leader & Corporate Vice President, receiving SBD’s Contribution to The District Award, presented by Minister Peter Burke at our Executive Lunch in Leopardstown Racecourse in October.
At Thursday’s event, Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister James Lawless commended Microsoft’s contribution to Ireland’s technology ecosystem, talent pipeline, and broader economic growth.
