Sandyford Civic Park

What is Sandyford Civic Park?

Sandyford Civic Park is a collaborative effort between Sandyford Business District and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. We are transforming 0.8 hectares of land into a park for residents, workers and visitors to Sandyford to enjoy. Strategically positioned at the junction of Corrig Road and Carmanhall Road, this park will not only enhance the overall quality of public spaces but also addresses heat stress within the business park area.

The proposed location for the Sandyford Civic Park is at the junction of Carmanhall Road and Corrig Road. Currently there are three industrial properties on the site which extends to 2 acres in total (about the size of a GAA pitch). In order to tackle climate change and to provide more sustainable and enjoyable places to live, it’s important to balance housing and commercial development with the provision of green spaces. Green spaces prevent heat stress in our urban areas and play a crucial role in mitigating urban heat islands.

To fund the project both Sandyford Business District and DLR have been part of a European Territorial Cooperation programme financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The fund aims to support a balanced development across the North West Europe area, making all regions more resilient, and contributing to a better quality of life and well-being of all NWE citizens.

Below are six key principles that are being followed throughout the development of Sandyford Civic Park:

  • Addressing the lack of public/civic amenities in the Sandyford Business District
  • Changing the feel of the district away from a traditional business park to a liveable area
  • Using a design approach that invites active stakeholder participation at all stages
  • Supporting the path to sustainability in the Sandyford Business District
  • Significant contribution to greening and increased biodiversity in the district
  • Reuse of materials in the development of the park
