M50 Junction 14 Link Road Scheme

M50 Junction 14 Link Road Scheme

Sandyford Business District (SBD) is pleased to announce the commencement of the M50 Junction 14 Link Road Scheme — a major infrastructure project that SBD has championed for many years.

This milestone represents the culmination of sustained advocacy by SBD on behalf of businesses and residents to improve connectivity, enhance mobility, and reduce congestion across The District and surrounding areas.

The scheme involves the construction of a new link road connecting the existing signalised roundabout at M50 Junction 14 on Leopardstown Road to Blackthorn Road.

The project will deliver substantial improvements, including:

- A new signalised junction on Blackthorn Road

- Upgrades to the existing M50 J14 roundabout to accommodate the new link

- Enhanced pedestrian and cyclist crossings on Leopardstown Road

- Dedicated active travel facilities promoting walking and cycling

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) has appointed @BAM Civil Ltd. as the main contractor, with Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates (CSEA) serving as design consultants. CSEA has optimised the road layout to prioritise pedestrian and cyclist safety and ensure seamless integration with the upcoming Sandyford Active Travel Scheme, due to commence in Q2 2026.

The construction contract will run for approximately 18 months, with works progressing generally from north to south. A 12-week road closure on Blackthorn Road is planned for Q1/Q2 2026 to facilitate essential utility diversions. The success of the scheme will rely on close collaboration with key stakeholders, including ESB Networks, Spirit Motor Group, and other local businesses.

SBD will work closely with the Director of Services at DLR and his team, and will be holding weekly coordination meetings with BAM Civil Ltd. to ensure we have the latest information to keep businesses in The District fully informed throughout the works.

Traffic management will be a key focus, with measures implemented to minimise disruption to businesses and commuters.

Regular updates will be provided via the SBD website to keep the community informed throughout the construction phase.
